Gunstock Checkering
Tools
These gunstock checkering tools have many uses. Gunstock checkering is a carving technique where an area of diamond shaped
textures are cut into the surface of wood. Checkered patterns are both
practical as well as decorative. Gunstock checkering has is used to improve
the grip on gunstock and pistol grips. Another practical use for gunstock
checkering tools is
the checkering of cane handles and walking stick grips.
Checkering
can also be used as a decorative finishing on other wood carvings,
furniture,
cabinet doors and drawers,
wood turned bowls and vases. Some woodcarvers use the checkering tools
for the texturing of hair and feathers on their carvings.

Dem-Bart brand quality gunstock checkering tools are used
for the checkering of gunstocks, cane handles and walking sticks. This
Master
Checkering Set contains six tools each mounted in its own
hardwood handle and all other tools and products to
do a complete checkering project. Each set is
available in 16, 18, 20, 22, or 24 lines per inch.
The handles of these gunstock
checkering tools are designed to allow the replacement of or the change
to cutters of different lines per inch or of a different style.
The following tools are
included in the Master Gunstock Checkering Set:
C1 - Coarse.
Coarse layout checkering cutter - Used for original pattern layout and deepening
the rows after they are marked in.
F1 - Fine. Fine layout
checkering
cutter - Used for
original pattern layout and deepening the rows after they are marked in
and the final finishing.
#2. Double
checkering
cutter - Used to "even-up" the diamonds to assure an even pattern.
#3. Left spacing
checkering
cutter - Cuts new rows, has two blades but the right one is smooth and
is used as a guide to assure even spacing.
#4. Right spacing
checkering
cutter - A mirror image
of the left hand cutter.

cutter - Makes short work
of tight corners and small areas.
